We love meeting new faces who share our passion for hockey and, this month, we got to meet a whole host of new school players and coaches from all over Johannesburg! The budding potential and growth of the sport within the province has been astounding – a positive sign for the future of SA Hockey.

Our Johannesburg Academy saw 45 players and coaches register – a record for our Academy across the country. Joining us as coaches were former SA Hockey players’ Sulette Damons and Louise de Jager, as well as current SA Hockey players’ Shelley Russell and Kara-Lee Stella (SA Indoor Hockey player as well) to name a few.

Working closely with these hockey icons, players and coaches learnt individual position-specific skills, goal scoring, goal setting, defence, out-letting, structures and patterns, technical and tactical skills, mental toughness, recovery regimes, nutrition, as well as one-on-one feedback.

During our two-day courses, we are always amazed to see how much the girls develop, regardless of age or skill level, and their determination to put what they have learnt into practice.

If you joined us, we enjoyed our time with you and hope you did too. We also would like to hear about your achievements (no matter how big or small) on the field.
